FX and Louis CK are pushing the pause button on the comedian’s acclaimed comedy series Louie. During a conference call today, FX president John Landgraf and Louis CK announced that, instead of next summer, the upcoming fourth season of the comedy series will premiere in Spring 2014 to give Louis CK more time for prep work.
Landgraf noted that FX’s goal has always been to say yes and to give Louis CK whatever space he needs to create as best he can. Louis CK, who is taking a page off Larry David’s playbook of longer hiatuses between seasons, said he wanted his show to keep getting better and stay funny. “I don’t want it to be making the doughnuts,” he said.
Louis CK and Landgraf referred to the first three seasons of Louie as the first act of a trilogy, with Louis CK noting he hoped the show could go to nine seasons.
